Telegram Stars: new internal currency for mini-apps
07.06.2024
Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced the launch of an internal payment method within the messenger ecosystem — Telegram Stars. This currency is designed for purchasing digital services in mini-apps available on Telegram.Durov emphasized that unlike traditional apps, mini-apps like Notcoin do not require installation and quickly attract new users thanks to the social nature of Telegram. With Telegram Stars, mini-apps can accept payments for digital services using simple payment methods — in-app purchases on Android and iOS. Developers can withdraw their Stars through the Fragment platform using TON, as well as use the currency to promote their apps on Telegram on preferential terms.Durov also noted that Apple and Google charge a 30% commission when users purchase Stars. However, Telegram will subsidize advertising purchased with Telegram Stars, allowing developers to reduce the total commission to almost 0% when reinvesting Stars into promoting their apps.Developers highlighted that future updates will add additional functionality to Stars, including the ability to send gifts to content creators.
